Recently TL Travel took a break in the lively city of Amsterdam & brought you; our travelers, with us for each step of the adventure. On each & every journey (whether it is meant to be a business trip or not) TL Travel explores new locations & critiques boutique hotels for future recommendations for our travelers. Our aim is always to find unique spaces, each with their own style of comfort & luxury, & to pass our experiences there on to you!
This time, we stayed at Max Brown Canal District; a boutique hotel that has been build into three Amsterdam canal houses at the corner of Amsterdam’s most famous canals, the Herengracht & the Brouwersgracht. If you are looking for something unique & in walking distance of all of the sites, then Max Brown is certainly among our top recommendations here.
TL TRAVEL TIP: This hotel has many, many steep steps throughout their 3 narrow buildings. If steep steps are not something that you're interested in then be sure to request a room on a lower floor.
Max Brown Canal District has a very chill & relaxing atmosphere, perfect for travelers who want to explore through the day & then unwind in the evening (or before a night out on the town.) With helpful 24 hour reception & complimentary surprises at every turn, you won't want to leave. A buffet breakfast was included with our stay (complete with gluten free bread on request) & while there is no restaurant here, sweets & snacks are available for purchase from morning to night.
TL TRAVEL TIP: One of the things that we loved about the Max Brown breakfast buffet was their to-go cups for coffee/ tea/ juice/ latte etc., so be sure to fill up your cup before you head out on the town. For adventures on colder days, there's nothing better than a hot coffee in hand to warm you up as you explore the city!
One of our favorite things about Max Brown Canal District was its location. For those arriving in the city by rail, it is an easy walk from the train station & only a few blocks in any direction to smaller shops & restaurant. In regards to the larger tourist attractions, Anne Frank House is a short ten minute walk through picturesque streets & you will find the Van Gogh Museum, Rijksmuseum & Moco Gallery (among others) an easy 20 - 25 minute walk from your doorstep.
TL TRAVEL TIP: Avoid waiting in long lines by booking your museum entry tickets online in advance. There is no better feeling than by-passing long lines of tired travelers & you will surely make the most of your valuable travel time this way.
Each room at Max Brown Canal District is unique & slightly different from the next. While the rooms here are certainly on the smaller side, the experience is one you are sure to remember. Be sure to choose a canal view room (the natural lighting makes small spaces feel much larger) & really get the feel of this exciting city from one of TL Travel's favorite small boutique hotels in Amsterdam.
